Social & Community Services (SACS) News

The Prime Minister announced on Thursday, 13th June 2013 that the Government is committed to providing funding for SACS workers in Western Australia who fall within the state (rather than the already funded Federal) jurisdiction.  Our union  is running a pay equity case in the WAIRC  so that State System SACS workers are not disadvantaged simply because they are not in the Federal Industrial Jurisdiction.

The ASU originally supported the referral of the application to a Full Bench because of coverage of clerical/admin workers in the retail industry but mainly because most modern awards relevant to ASU coverage retain Junior Rates.  Junior rates were not adequately considered through the award modernisation process and are generally supported by employers as a cheap form of labour.
